Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month
In May, San Antonio celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month by recognizing the culture, traditions and contributions of the city’s AAPI community.
On Thursday, May 7, City Council will kick off the celebration with a special announcement. Throughout the month, you can also support local AAPI-owned restaurants across San Antonio and enjoy special discounts along the way. It’s a great opportunity to try something new, connect through food and support local businesses in our community.

Lead Safety
The City of San Antonio’s Green and Healthy Homes (SAGHH) program is offering free lead inspections and cleanup for qualifying homes. Property owners (both single-family and multi-family ) and renters can receive assistance to help create healthy, safe, energy-efficient and sustainable homes for families. Things to know:
- Homes built before 1978 may contain lead paint.
- Lead can pass from a pregnant person to their baby and affect their baby’s growth and development.
- Young children are highly vulnerable to this invisible harm.
- We can help — at no cost to you — so your family can grow and play in safer, healthier homes.

Roof Repair!
Through the City’s cool roof program, qualifying homeowners can receive energy-efficient roof replacement at no cost. Cool roof shingle replacements are designed to help keep homes cooler in South Texas heat. The cool roofs are designed to absorb less heat than traditional roofing, which can help improve comfort and reduce energy use. Who is eligible for the program:
- Homeowners who live in designated high heat areas.
- Homeowners who do not live in a designated high heat area may still qualify if their household income is at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
If you qualify, the program will cover the cost of replacing your roof with a new cool roof. Cool roofs reflect more sunlight and absorb less heat than a traditional roof.
Applications are reviewed in the order they are received and based on available funding. Please note: this is not an emergency roof replacement program, and applications may take up to three months to process.
