Our streets are our responsibility. Vision Zero is a data-driven approach to traffic safety that focuses public dollars on areas that statistically create the most public benefit. This initiative seeks to improve public safety and end traffic fatalities through education, enforcement and engineering projects like crosswalks, bike lanes and better street lighting. We are committed to continuing to work with the community to make our streets safer.

Remember: Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent closures from occurring as scheduled and make it unsafe to close and/or reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, The City works directly with appropriate stakeholders to resolve any concerns as quickly as possible and reduce impacts on the traveling public.

Pedestrians walking near event areas should be alert, and cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available, and abide by detour signage.

Motorists traveling through event areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should proactively obey all signage and constantly be on the lookout for others traveling through event areas.

April 22: 2023 Sarcoma Stop

 

The event begins at 8 a.m. on Mammoth Oaks Drive. The course alsoutilizes Lakeview Drive, Creola Road, Providence Road, Jefferson Drive, Lansing Drive, Jefferson Drive, Preston Lane, Mammoth Oaks Drive, Creola Road, before returning to Lakeview Drive.  

 

Event organizers expect 650 participants.

Heartest Yard 5K

The event begins at 8:00 a.m. on Cumberland Avenue, routing participants along East Boulevard, Maryland Avenue, Croydon Road, Queens Road West, then returning to Levine Children’s Hospital. 

 

Event organizers expect 900 participants.

April 22: Bleeding Disorders Foundation of NC Walk

 

The event begins at 9 a.m. at Romare Bearden Park on Mint Street. Participants will travel Mint Street to Morehead Street, Cedar Street, West 4th Street, then returning on Mint Street.

The walk begins at 11 a.m. on Trinity Road, traveling along Feldbank Drive, Clairemore Drive, Elderbank Drive, and return to Trinity Road.

The event begins at 12 p.m. at Symphony Park, utilizing Coca Cola Plaza, Rexford Road, Roxborough Road, and Carnegie Boulevard, before returning to Symphony Park.

April 26: Education Day at Truist Field

The Education Day game at Truist Field is Wednesday, April 26 at 11:05 a.m. The event will bring an additional 40+ school buses around Truist Field on Wednesday morning.

 

Event organizers expect 4,500 attendees.

 

Heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic is expected around the ballpark leading up to the start of the game. Commuters should use caution and allow extra travel time.


April 29: Elizabeth 8K & 1.5 Mile

The event begins at 8 a.m. at Bartow Court at North Torrence Street. Participants will go up Torrence Street towards Park Drive, Charlottetowne Avenue, around Independence Park.  They will then go towards Chantilly Park, back up 7th Street, North Caswell Road, Greenway Avenue, Cameron Avenue, 5th Street, North Dotger Avenue, Vail Avenue, North Laurel Avenue, 5th Street, and back to Independence Park. It will finish at Travis Avenue and Bartow Court.

 

Event organizers expect 800 participants.

April 30: Tunnel to Towers Climb Charlotte

 

Tunnel to Towers Foundation is hosting a Tower Climb event as a fundraiser for the organization.  Participants will be racing up the stairs at the Museum Tower.  The event will raise money for the Foundation’s various programs that support first responders, military heroes, and their families.  The purpose of the event is also to remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

 

Levine Avenue of the Arts will close at 5 a.m. and reopen by 2 p.m.

 

Event Organizers estimate 600 participants.

April 30: Girls on the Run 5K

The event begins at 9 a.m. at Symphony Park. Participants will also utilize Barclay Downs Drive, Ferncliff Road, Colony Road, Clarendon Road, Wickersham Road, Colony Road, Roxborough Road, Rexford Road, Coca Cola Plaza, Carnegie Boulevard, ending at symphony Park.

 

Event organizers expect 2000 participants.

April 30: Cinco de Mayo 2023

 

This is a celebration of the Cinco de Mayo Festival for the Charlotte community.

 

The following streets will be utilized for the festival. They will close at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, and reopen at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 30.

  • Commonwealth Avenue from The Plaza to Pecan Avenue.
  • Thomas Street from Commonwealth Avenue to Central Avenue.

 

Event hours are  April 30 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The tournament begins Monday, May 1 and ends Sunday, May 7 at Quail Hollow Club.

The event begins at 8 a.m. at JW Clay Boulevard. They will go onto the Barton Creek Greenway, Mallard Creek Greenway, and the Toby Creek Greenway out and back. It will finish back on JW Clay Boulevard.

A neighborhood event, open to the public, to gather, socialize and enjoy live music, artisan vendors, and food trucks.

 

Event hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Elmhurst Road from Poindexter Road to the end of the street (park location) will close at 11 a.m. and reopen at 6:30 p.m.

 

Estimated attendance is 275.


May 13: Walk a Mile

 

The event begins at 9 a.m. at NoDa Brewing at 2921 North Tryon Street. Participants will walk down 32nd Street and return to NoDa Brewing.

 

Event organizers expect 300 participants.

Uptown Sidewalk Riding Restrictions


Sidewalk riding is allowed except in the area of Uptown bound by Church St., Brooklyn Village Ave., College St., and 7th St. This restriction is for bikes, e-bikes, and e-scooters. When riding on sidewalks, be visible, courteous, and yield to pedestrians at all times.
