BALTIMORE TO GET $85M TO HELP TRANSFORM BLIGHTED ‘HIGHWAY TO NOWHERE’
Congressional members announced $85 million in federal funding to revitalize the Highway to Nowhere in Baltimore City.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Reconnecting Communities Program and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the plan will transform a section of the unfinished expressway between I-70 and downtown Baltimore. This highway displaced hundreds of Black families when it was built decades ago.
The project will cap the recessed highway by widening and connecting two bridges, creating space for development above while the road runs below. It aims to reconnect neighborhoods on both sides and could also support a station for the proposed Red Line light rail.
