Our streets are our responsibility. Vision Zero is a data-driven approach to traffic safety that focuses public dollars on areas that statistically create the most public benefit. This initiative seeks to improve public safety and end traffic fatalities through education, enforcement and engineering projects like crosswalks, bike lanes and better street lighting. Remember: Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent closures from occurring as scheduled and make it unsafe to close and/or reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, The City works directly with appropriate stakeholders to resolve any concerns as quickly as possible and reduce impacts on the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near event areas should be alert, and cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available, and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through event areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should proactively obey all signage and constantly be on the lookout for others traveling through event areas.

July 28-29: 2023 24 Hours of Booty

|
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. on July 28. They will start at Wellesley Avenue at Queens Road West, to Selwyn Avenue, Queens Road, Hopedale Avenue, Queens Road West. They will be making this loop until July 29 at 7 p.m.
Event organizers expect 900 participants.

August 12: Five Points Plaza 5K
|
|
|
|
The event begins at 8 a.m. at the dead end of W Trade Street. They will go through the parking lot of Jet’s Pizza and turn right onto Rozzelles Ferry Road. Then they will take Walford Drive, Roslyn Avenue, Seldon Drive, Mill Road, Jenkins Street, Five Points Park, French Street, Mattoon Street, Crestview Drive, Mattoon Street, Campus Street, Dixon Street, Solomon Street, and finish on back at the dead end of W Trade Street.
Event organizers expect 150 participants.

August 19-20: Charlotte Pride
|
|
|
|
This annual event has become the largest LGBTQ celebration of its kind in the Carolinas and the city’s largest annual parade.
Event hours are-
Saturday, August 19: 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Sunday, August 20: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Estimated attendance is 250,000.

Street Closures
Friday, August 18 – 9 a.m.: Tryon Street between Morehead Street and 4th Street close; Levine Avenue of the Arts closes from Church Street to Tryon Street. All cross streets remain open.
4 p.m.: Levine Avenue of the Arts reopens for Green Lot exit.
6 p.m.: Levine Avenue of the Arts recloses; Good Samaritan Way closes between College Street and Church Street closes.
Saturday, August 19 - 5 a.m. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, 3rd Street, and 4th Street close between Church Street and College Street.
Sunday, August 20 – 11:59 p.m. All streets reopen.

August 20: Charlotte Pride Parade

|
|
|
The parade begins at 1 p.m. on N Tryon Street at 9th Street.
The cross streets between 9th Street and 13th Street on N Tryon Street will begin closing at 8 a.m., as well as N Tryon Street between those blocks.
The cross streets from 9th Street to 4th Street will close between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. N Tryon Street from 9th Street to 4th Street will close shortly before the parade starts at 1 p.m.
Event organizers expect 200 units in the parade, and over 250,000 spectators.

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. on East Boulevard at Winthrop Avenue. They will go towards Dilworth Road West, Dilworth Road East, East Boulevard, Park Road, Kingston Avenue, Winthrop Avenue, Lyndhurst Avenue, Worthington Avenue. They will make this loop 2 times and finish back at the starting point.
Event organizers expect 800 participants.

August 26: Tour de Turns Charity Event
|

|
|
The event begins at 7 a.m. and involves 5 different cycling routes that range from a 15-mile route to a 62 mile route. All routes stay within a 6 square mile area through the neighborhoods of Quail Hollow, Olde Georgetowne, and Providence. There is also a 3.2 mile and 5.8 Walking route that will also go through the same neighborhoods.
Event organizers expect 500 participants.

Uptown Sidewalk Riding Restrictions |

Sidewalk riding is allowed except in the area of Uptown bound by Church St., Brooklyn Village Ave., College St., and 7th St. This restriction is for bikes, e-bikes, and e-scooters. When riding on sidewalks, be visible, courteous, and yield to pedestrians at all times.
