Mowing Around Your Meter

🥊 In the battle of mower vs meter - let the meter win!

Have you ever noticed the circular device on top of your water meter box? This is your meter endpoint, which connects to your water meter and enables wireless transmission of usage readings. The town is about 65% complete with a meter system upgrade project, replacing all meter endpoints with a newer version that will enhance usage insights for customers and create efficiency for town staff.

These endpoints are a little higher than the older version and can get caught underneath your lawn mower if you're not careful, so be sure to:

  1. Locate your meter box before you start mowing
  2. Work slowly around the meter box to avoid damaging the equipment
  3. Consider using a trimmer in that area instead of a mower to have better control

What is the meter system upgrade?

Tingen Road Crossing

As we developed the plan for the Tingen Road Crossing project, we hosted a series of public engagement opportunities including a stakeholder focus group and a public design charrette - both held in May, and an online public comment period  - held in June. These provided great insights into community needs and wishes.

From those opportunities, a plan for a tunnel alternative (Alternative 4) was created. Town staff plan to request a recommendation from Planning Board and decision from Town Council at their upcoming August sessions. Have thoughts on the project? Attend the August 11th and 12th meetings to speak during the public comment period.

Serve on an Advisory Board

Take your seat at the table! Serving on a Town Advisory Board is a great way to get involved, collaborate with local leaders, and make a real impact.

Apex has vacancies on four resident advisory boards - 1 regular member and 3 youth! These boards provide input and recommendations about key policies, programs, and initiatives that affect our community. The application period is now open!

Learn more and apply by August 13th...

Apex Peakway SW Connector Update

Even with record high temperatures and heavy rainstorms this summer, the Apex Peakway SW Connector project is progressing full steam ahead. Here are the recent updates from this project:

  • Road widening and paving between James Street and Yateley Lane will wrap up at the end of August, and that section will reopen to traffic.

  • Construction has started on the first (and tallest) retaining wall near the CSX railroad tracks, forming the southern bridge approach from Salem Village.

  • Work continues on the brick-faced retaining wall along S. Salem Street.

  • Once the concrete cap is poured at the southern end, the contractor will begin installing bridge girders later this fall.

  • A second retaining wall will soon begin construction on the north side of the bridge.

  • About 70% of the storm drainage work is complete, and the overall project is roughly 30% finished.
