On August 1, the Rankin Avenue Garage closed for necessary repair work that is anticipated to last one month. Once that work is complete, the Wall Street garage will follow, also closing for repairs for about one month. The project team is providing bi-weekly updates throughout the duration of construction impacts.
Week One at Rankin Avenue Garage
The contractor kicked off week one of the four-week repair project at the Rankin Avenue garage with a large work crew who got to work immediately. The first order of business was the removal of damaged concrete and failed sealers. With the damaged concrete removed, the reinforcing steel was cleaned and prepped to prevent corrosion. This means the majority of the demolition work is now complete, which was the noisiest and dustiest portion of the project.
An after hours permit has been officially granted to allow the contractor to work seven days a week which will continue to keep the project on schedule.
Due to the large crew, dust control was difficult to manage in week one. However, by mid-week, the contractor had instituted new procedures and installed additional dust collecting equipment to capture the dust more efficiently.
This coming week, new concrete will be placed in the areas that were demolished and prepped last week, and cracks will be filled and repaired.
Stay tuned for your next bi-weekly update on or around August 18. For additional background information, visit the project page.
