State Route 53 & State Route 2 Interchange Feasibility Study (PID 110859)
State Route 53 & State Route 2 Interchange Feasibility Study (PID 110859)
Thank you for visiting. Our public comment period is now closed, however, the information shared below will continue to be available for reference.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) proposes to improve the westbound SR 2/SR 53 interchange and the intersection of SR 53 and State Road as well as widen SR 53 from SR 2 north to SR 163 near Port Clinton in Ottawa County. The purpose of this project is to reduce the frequency and severity of traffic crashes in the project area and improve the capacity of the corridor. A feasibility study has been recently completed, and the project is currently in the preliminary engineering design phase in which surveys, environmental studies, engineering, and design are underway. Two alternatives have been developed for the project which we would like public feedback on to help in the selection of the preferred alternative. The project is expected to require permanent and temporary right-of-way. Construction is currently scheduled to begin spring 2023 and last approximately 9 months. Specific detour information will occur in multiple phases and is not finalized at this time; however, no closures are planned to occur from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and access to businesses will be maintained.
Please join us for a virtual public meeting Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from 4-5pm with a presentation at 4:00pm.
The meeting presentation and handout (both coming soon) explain the feasibility study and proposed project for improving the intersection. The purpose of the meeting is to explain the overall project, present the findings from the feasibility study and potential impacts, discuss how traffic will be maintained during construction, answer your questions, and receive your input.
