DCPS Safe & Positive Schools Policy - Deadline 10/14/2022
DCPS is seeking comments on a proposed draft of the Safe and Positive Schools Policy as part of our periodic policy review process and in order to best support and provide safe and positive learning environments for students, staff, and stakeholders. As a part of our commitment to supporting the needs of the whole child, DCPS plays a critical role in promoting student safety and creating supportive learning environments. A school environment that creates a safe and positive learning environment based on universal respect and proactive, restorative practices that prevent student misbehavior, when possible, before it occurs. We will utilize a system of effective behavior intervention strategies to meet students varied academic, behavioral, and developmental needs with tiered support and interventions.
This policy conveys the requirements around staff training and professional development on student supports and behavioral interventions; behavioral interventions and supports, including restorative practices and multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS); the requirements around student suspensions, including the types of misconduct that can lead to a suspension and the various levels of infractions; discipline for students with disabilities; due process procedures; and police interaction in schools.
