BR-0021: N.C. 48 over Roanoke River - Halifax & Northampton
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to replace the bridge on N.C. 48 over the Roanoke River in Halifax and Northampton Counties.
The existing bridge will remain open during construction and will be used as an on-site detour. Construction is anticipated to last up to 24 months.

Project Design
The new bridge will:
Be constructed on new alignment to the east of the current bridge
Include two 12-foot travel lanes with 8-foot shoulders
Include two truck access routes at the N.C. 48 and Roanoke Avenue Extension intersection which will improve sidewalk and traffic operations
The Gaston Boating Access Area will remain in service once construction is completed
