Overview
This pavement preservation project is located between 5th Avenue and Post Road in northeast Anchorage. The project proposes to eliminate ruts, extend the surface life of the roadway, increase or maintain safety and accessibility, and reduce future maintenance costs.
Proposed Improvements include the following
- Removing and replacing the top 2 inches of the existing asphalt surface from the roadway and bridge,
- Removing and replacing select segments of asphalt bedding (gravel foundation),
- Clearing ditches of vegetation and sediment build-up to restore drainage,
- Replacing roadside signage and pavement striping,
- Installing new curb ramps that meet ADA design standards, and
- Replacing select intersection signal hardware.
Completed Tasks Include
- Approved Environmental Document.
- Signed Design Study Report.
- 75% and 95% Design Reviews.
Current Tasks Include
- Finalizing the construction plan set and engineer's cost estimate.
- Requesting Temporary Construction Easements (TCEs) from two adjacent landownders to accommodate the construction of ADA curb ramp facilities. No permanent land acquisition is required for this project.
- Utilty agreements for minor valve box and manhole adjustments to accommodate paving activities.
Construction funding will be obligated by FHWA next fall with construction scheduled for summer 2022.
