Soldotna Municipal Airport: Runway 7-25 Rehabilitation
Soldotna Municipal Airport: Runway 7-25 Rehabilitation
The Runway 7-25 Rehabilitation project will pulverize the existing asphalt surface of the runway and repave it. The centerline profile of the eastern 2000 feet of the runway will be adjusted to remove a "hump" in the profile in order to improve the line of sight along the runway. This portion of the runway will be over-excavated to remove frost susceptible material. The runway edge lighting system will be replaced. At the three taxiway tie-ins, the asphalt will be removed and repaved. Due to the runway grade change, the VASI's will be removed and PAPI's installed. While work is underway on the runway, the parallel taxiway will be utilized as a temporary runway.
Project Overview
Runway 7-25 is a 5000 foot long x 132 foot wide paved runway with 12 foot wide paved shoulders. This project will repave the runway to 130 feet wide with 12 foot paved shoulders. At the east end of the runway, where the grade is proposed to be lowered, the lateral safety areas (150 feet each side of centerline) will also require grade adjustment. The three taxiways, each 50 feet wide with 12 foot paved shoulders, will each have approximately 250 linear feet repaved. Work required for the temporary runway will consist of modifications to the surface markings, existing edge lighting and existing sign legends.
The project is expected to start in May 2021 and last approximately six months.
