O’Malley Road Reconstruction: Livingston to Hillside, Phase II
O’Malley Road Reconstruction: Livingston to Hillside, Phase II
Project Description
This project is the second phase of a project to reconstruct O'Malley Road between the Seward Highway and Hillside Drive. Phase I covers O’Malley Road from the Seward Highway to Livingston Street. Phase II is from Livingston Street to Hillside Drive. An environmental assessment was completed in 2005 with a finding of no significant impact.
The purpose of this reconstruction project is to improve the usability and safety of the roadway as well as bring it up to current design standards. In order to be consistent with more recent area transportation and land use plans, pathways on both the north and south sides of O’Malley Road have been evaluated by the design team.

Project Design
The project will widen the existing corridor adding a center two-way-left-turn lane and pathways. See the typical sections below.
The project will construct pathways on the north and south sides of the street as noted below:
North Pathway: A 10-foot wide, paved pathway between Livingston Street and Rockridge Drrive and a 6-foot wide, recycled asphalt pahtway between Rickridge Drive and Hillside Drive.
South Pathway: A 6-foot wide, paved pathway between Birch Road and Rockridge Drive, connecting to the existing pahtway along Rockridge Drive which serves the surrounding neighborhood and O'Malley Elementary School.
Project Next Steps and Schedule
The next step is to complete the appraisal and acquisition of any additional right-of-way needed for the project and competitively bid the project for construction. The project is scheduled to bid in December 2020. Construction will begin in 2021 and take approximately two years.
