Project Highlights

The North Carolina Department of Transportation proposes to make improvements to make improvements on Midland Road from Airport Road to Clark Street in Southern Pines.

  • San Davis Road and Crestview Road

    • Existing U-turns at the intersection of Midland Road with San Davis Road and Crestview Road will be removed.

  • N Leak Street

    • The intersection of Midland Road and N. Leak Street will include a U-Turn area.

    • A left turn lane will be added on Midland Road to turn onto N. Leak Street.

  • Clark Street

    • A left turn from Midland Road onto Clark Street is proposed to add a right turn onto Clark Street from Midland Road.

    • Take the existing median out on Midland Road.

  • Airport Road to W. Vermont Avenue
    • Midland Road will be resurfaced from Airport Road to W. Vermont Avenue

    • The road willl be restriped and will include bike lanes on the section from U.S. 1 to Clark Street.

  • Ridge Road/Pines Needle Entrance/Mid Pines Entrance
    • A left turn lane will be added on Midland Road to turn onto Ridge Road.
    • Westbound Midland Road will be restriped to create a left turn lane for Mid Pines.

Carolina Eye and Pinehurst Area Realty

A left turn lane and bulbout will be added on Midland Road at Carolina Eye for U-turns.

A left turn lane and bulbout will be added near Pinehurst Area Realty for U-turns.

 

 

Midland Road Proposed Median Break Locations

Project includes the closure of a number of median openings along Midland Road from U.S. 1 to Airport Road.

The proposed median break map shows the remaining intersections that will have access maintained.

All comments will be taken into consideration, and carry equal weight, regardless of submittal method.
