The project was environmentally cleared in April 2021 as an Initial Study/Environmental Assessment (IS/EA). The build alternatives that were studied were 1) Deck Rehabilitation, 2) Superstructure Replacement and 3) Full Bridge Replacement. The Project Development Team selected the full bridge replacement as the other build alternatives did not address all the deficiencies. In October 2021, the project design commenced and it included evaluation of the different types of bridges as well as project staging and alignment. In June 2022, the Right of Way phase was also initiated to identify all necessary right of way needs including utilities, required rights (permanent and temporary) that will be required for construction and the new bridge alignment. In addition, in February 2023, the Department acquired a Construction Manager/General Contractor to provide pre-construction services.
