Design Public Hearing
Tuesday, June 18, 2024 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. VDOT Richmond District Office 2430 Pine Forest Drive South Chesterfield, VA 23834
The Fall Line Trail is a regional paved shared-use path that is planned to span seven localities and connect rural, suburban, and urban landscapes and a multitude of places of interest for approximately 43 miles in the Richmond region from the City of Petersburg to the Town of Ashland.
The Fall Line Trail – Southern Section will complete the southernmost segments of the Fall Line Trail and will provide a new 9.5 mile separated ten-foot (10’) shared use path to connect Patton Park in the City of Petersburg to Chester Linear Park in Chesterfield County. The limits of the project are from Patton Park located along the Appomattox River in Petersburg, to Chester Linear Park in Chesterfield County, at West Hundred Road.
The Fall Line Trail – Southern Section will primarily follow the historic Seaboard Air Line Railroad corridor for approximately 9.5 miles through Colonial Heights and a portion of Chesterfield County.
On October 25, 2022, the Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB), the governing board for VDOT, resolved to adopt the location decision to accept the Fall Line Trail project into the state transportation system. This decision is consistent with the Code of Virginia (§33.2-208) and the Virginia Administrative Code (24 VAC 30-380-10) and allows the project to move forward to design, advertisement, and construction. VDOT has prepared a conceptual design for the project, which is being presented at tonight’s Design Public Hearing. Detailed design and construction of the project will occur through a Design-Build project procurement method. Following the review and input of public comments received, VDOT anticipates that a Request for Design-Build Proposals contract will be advertised in the Fall of 2024
