Graves Mill Rd. STARS Study (Lynchburg)
This STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study evaluates potential safety and operational enhancements for the Graves Mill Road corridor, extending from Gristmill Drive to McConville Road in the City of Lynchburg, Virginia. The study area encompasses both signalized and unsignalized intersections. The signalized intersections included in this analysis are Gristmill Drive, Millrace Drive, Rosedale Boulevard, Old Graves Mill Extension, Old Graves Mill Road, and the southbound and northbound ramps of the Lynchburg Expressway. The unsignalized intersections analyzed are the Bausch & Lomb/Bentley Commons Entrance and McConville Road.
This study involves a comprehensive crash data analysis and an operational analysis that will be based on data collection and field observations. These analyses will assist in identifying pertinent issues and in developing proposed improvements. Additionally, relevant previous or ongoing studies within and near the project corridor will be reviewed to gather supplementary data and recommendations. The objective of this study is to formulate alternatives that address existing congestion and safety challenges while enhancing access for all modes and users.
