The City of Raleigh wants to hear from a broad cross-section of the Wakefield community. By helping us understand where you live in the area, we can identify any neighborhoods we have not heard from through this process. Please indicate on the map below generally where you live. If you enter your street name, the map will find it for you.

Drag and drop the icons provided to identify opportunities and challenges in the Wakefield Small Area (outlined in orange)! Show us places you love and places where you have big ideas or suggestions. For areas where important pedestrian and bicycle connections need to occur, use the "Draw line" tool at the bottom of the map to show us!
There is terrible visibility for oncoming traffic heading West on John Rex Blvd. If you are taking a left out of the Harris Teeter parking lot onto John Rex Blvd, it's impossible to see who is coming from right because of the hedges in the median. Take them down and replace with something low lying.

Falls and Capital stop light is brutal... ton of traffic of course and the light lasts a long time. Anything to ease flow would be great

The approaches with large dips at the ends of these bridges are horrible. Maintenance to make the transition from the roadway to the bridge smooth is needed.

It is unnerving and dangerous for walkers with children or dogs to cross on the unguarded sidewalks on the Falls bridge where cars are speeding past. A protected, separate sidewalk or pedestrian bridge would be far preferable for area residents who want to use the greenway but do not have a safe pathway across the river.

Love the Greenway. Needs to be more accessible by bicycle by residents of Wakefield.

Is there anything the project team should know about the environmental features of the area?
The area is becoming too dense which is affecting the area's environment

That they need more pools for people to enjoy and more senior activities to do!

Good place to live

I very much like the area, access to shopping and restaurants, close to 540 and easy access to downtown, midtown, and the airport.

Please react to the statements below. Also, if there are other specific roadways in the study area you believe have speeding issues, please note those in the comments for this question.

Always and there is a lot of donuts and squealing wheels at Jelly Beans parking lot!

There is a speeding problem on Common Oak Rd that connects with new falls of the neuse.

Especially across Capital as a walker

There is a speeding problem on Wakefield Commons between F of N and Capital. It is also used by a small group of young men w/ loud exhausts who race and do donuts up and down the street. The police have been notified of this.

Traffic calming is needed on Falls of Neuse between Neuse River bridge and Wakefield Pines [or Forest Pines].

Far too much speeding on Spruce Tree Way at night

Why is this survey geared to bikes - it seems to ASSUME everyone wants to spend TAX DOLLARS on bike lanes. Even the existing bike lanes are rarely used.
ReplyAgree3 years ago
I love the Greenways, but we also need separated bike lanes that serve a function (e.g., safely getting groceries, running errands) and safely go into shopping areas as the parking lots are dangerous. The painted bike lanes (aka, painted bicycle gutters) are unsafe and often on higher speed (35+ mph) four lane roads, which is crazy, or they dump you out at those roads (e.g., Wakefield Pines bike lane ends at 98!) or they disappear in turn lanes, which is very dangerous. Fast cars and bikes don't mix. The Netherlands has this figured out. We need a car system, a bike system, and a pedestrian system.

Ability to get my bicycle to the greenway needs improvement.

I wish we could bike to see friends, go to school, run errands, shopping, etc. But, it's too unsafe. We need separated, protected bike lanes that somehow avoid busy entrances to shopping areas or gas.
ReplyAgree3 years ago
I would bike to the YMCA, greenway, shop and restaurants if it was safe.
ReplyAgree3 years ago
I think it's too dangerous to bike except within neighborhoods or on the Greenway.
ReplyAgree3 years ago
I would do more if we had better paths.
ReplyAgree3 years ago
We have casual recreational cyclists in Wakefield and serious road riders. Lots of bikes!
