Rt. 1, Rt. 208 and Lafayette Blvd. Improvements
Rt. 1, Rt. 208 and Lafayette Blvd. Improvements
Project Overview
Three separate projects have been grouped together and will be accomplished through a single construction contract to improve operations, mobility, and safety along the Route 208 corridor in Spotsylvania County and along Lafayette Boulevard in the City of Fredericksburg.
Together, these projects will add and extend turn lanes at the Four Mile Fork intersection, add westbound lanes on 208, provide three left turn lanes on Southpoint Parkway, install new sidewalks, make improvements to the Route 208/Houser Drive Park and Ride commuter lot, and add two new Fredericksburg Regional Transit bus stops.
The proposed projects will also make the following improvements:
- Improve the Route 1 intersection at Four Mile Fork by lengthening existing turn lanes, and would add another left turn lane at the eastbound and westbound approaches
- Install new sidewalk to fill-in gaps along Route 1 between Market Street and Four Mile Fork, northbound Lafayette Boulevard to Redwood Drive
- Build 2,000 feet of new sidewalk on the east side of Lafayette Boulevard from Alliance Way to north of Hillcrest Drive
- Build additional westbound lanes on Route 208 between Hood Drive and Woodland Drive to include triple left turn lanes on northbound Southpoint Parkway at Route 208
- Add two new bus stops along the Fredericksburg Regional Transit service route
- Provide a new transit shelter at the Route 208/Houser Drive Park and Ride commuter lot with LED solar lighting, ten bicycle lockers, ten covered bicycle parking spaces, and new signage
