Merced County 2022 Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP)
Merced County 2022 Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP)
Improving Transit Together
The Merced County Association of Governments (MCAG) is working to better meet our communities’ mobility needs by enhancing transit countywide.
The 2022 SRTP will develop a five-year vision for transit across Merced County. Building on a comprehensive assessment of the county’s existing mobility network, the SRTP will define improvement recommendations that focus on delivering effective and efficient service that meets the needs of residents countywide.
Last fall, we met with riders and residents to collect input about transit in Merced County. Based on that input, we’ve developed recommendations for route updates that better address local mobility needs.
Check out the route updates we're recommending as a part of the SRTP!
SRTP Route Recommendations - Ready for your input!
As a part of the SRTP, we are recommending changes to The Bus systemwide, which aim to provide:
- Service that is more direct and operates in both directions
- More effective connections to destinations countywide
- Transit that is easier to use and access
Specifically, we have envisioned two proposed route network alternatives:
Scenario 1: Assumes that The Bus and UC Merced’s Cat Tracks systems operate separately, as they do today.
Scenario 2: Integrates The Bus and Cat Tracks into one system that serves both the UC Merced and Merced County communities.

The current SRTP effort is led by MCAG’s Transportation Planning Division and will build upon the previous SRTP, completed in 2017. Covering a five-year horizon, the SRTP will:
- Assess current transit performance, availability, and accessibility;
- Analyze evolving travel patterns and countywide mobility needs;
- Develop recommendations for improving service, meeting community needs, and enhancing operational efficiency.
