Bogard/Engstrom/Green Forest Intersection Improvements
Bogard/Engstrom/Green Forest Intersection Improvements
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is proposing to add a single lane roundabout at the intersection of Bogard Road with Engstrom Road and Green Forest Drive. The project is being developed and funded through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).
The intersections of Bogard Road with Engstrom Road and with Green Forest Drive are very close to each other, which can increase the risk of crashes. The closely spaced intersections, high speeds, lack of sight distance, and access to the growing number of neighborhoods contribute to the large number of crashes and congestion problems at the intersection. Currently, the crash rate at the intersection of Bogard and Engstrom is higher than the statewide average for similar intersections. The goal of this project is to reduce the number and severity of crashes and also to improve day-to-day traffic conditions by reducing congestion.
