Doby Creek Greenway Planning Study
Doby Creek Greenway Planning Study
Welcome to the Doby Creek Greenway Planning Study's public input webpage! Mecklenburg County is conducting planning studies for greenway trails along portions of the greenway system as reflected on Mecklenburg County Greenway Master Plan to help inform future development, land needs and funding priorities. Greenway trails are the number one requested amenity by the residents of Mecklenburg County. In an effort to meet the needs of the public and continue adding to Mecklenburg County's growing greenway system, a planning study aims to better understand future greenway corridors.
The Doby Creek Greenway Planning Study will evaluate approximately 15 miles of the Doby Creek Greenway corridor from Mineral Springs Road to Mallard Creek Greenway and future Doby Creek Tributary Greenway from Doby Creek (north of WT Harris Blvd.) to IBM Drive. This greenway will expand recreation access and enhance transportation options in the University Area of Charlotte. This greenway will connect office campuses, mixed-use developments, multiple public schools, and future parks to the existing Mallard, Clark's, Barton and Toby Creek Greenways System. This project is not funded but rather intends to inform funding priorities for future Capital Improvement Plans. At the end of the study, the County will hold a public meeting to present the results and gather input.
Below you will find project updates and timelines, meeting dates, key contact information, and other important information about the Doby Creek and Doby Creek Tributary Greenways Planning Study. You may also give feedback and ask questions about this future greenway corridor. We encourage you to provide your input and stay connected!

What's Next?
The Doby Creek Greenway Planning Study will serve as a guide for real estate acquisition and preliminary design. Real estate acquisition is the next step in this long-term process that will require extensive collaboration with individual property owners. Property owners may donate property or be compensated for affected portions of their property. Ownership and/or easements of the land needed is an essential factor when prioritizing funding for future greenway projects.
Mecklenburg County does not have any funding allocated for the development of the Doby Creek Greenway Corridor in their existing Capital Improvement Plan. The construction of the 15 miles of greenway will likely not be built as 1 project, but rather 2-5 projects. For each project that gets funded for design and construction, there will be a public meeting for review and community input.
