Rt. 1 Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania
The proposed project on Route 1 will provide pedestrian and bicycle access along Route 1 in the City of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County.
The plan is to build bicycle and pedestrian access along Route 1 from Harrison Road in Spotsylvania County to Idlewild Boulevard in the City of Fredericksburg. Facilities include a shared use path, sidewalk, share the road signs and pavement markings.
As part of the project, a pedestrian bridge over Hazel Run will be built parallel to Route 1 and pedestrian crossing signal equipment will be installed at Kings Mill Drive and Idlewild Boulevard.
Construction is estimated to begin in 2028.

A design public hearing has been scheduled for this project:

*In the event of inclement weather, the hearing will be rescheduled to be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the same time and at the same location.
