SAFETY

Final AMATS Safety Plan

Thank you for participating in the Anchorage Metropolitan Area Transportation Solutions (AMATS) Safety Plan. Brought to you by the AMATS Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Safety Plan is intended to make the AMATS service area (Anchorage Bowl and Chugiak-Eagle River) safer for all road users. Scroll below to see how we can make the Anchorage area safer.

Be Safe AMATS Region!

Everyone has the right to safe travel. Whether you walk, roll, or ride, we want to make sure you can always arrive safely at your destinations. That's why we are developing a Safety Plan for the AMATS region.

The AMATS Safety Plan will be a strategic roadmap, outlining programmatic, policy, and project solutions to achieve a safer transportation system for all road users. This plan will build on the Anchorage Vision Zero Action Plan and structured around the Safe System Approach (SSA). The SSA embodies the following principles:

  • Loss of life is not an acceptable effect of transportation
  • Mitigate and prevent severe crashes
  • Select the right safety interventions
  • Implement safety proactively and systematically
  • Share responsibility between road users and practitioners
