Transportation Systems Management & Operations Plan
Transportation Systems Management & Operations Plan
Transportation Systems Management & Operations looks for ways to manage congestion without relying on additional roadway lanes, wherever this is possible. It emphasizes solutions that are high-impact and relatively easy to implement. Solutions can be spot treatments, such as a new crosswalk or pedestrian signal, or systemwide, such as a multiagency Traffic Management Center or Data Warehouse to improve issue identification and response time.
What is TSMO?
The Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) Strategic Implementation Plan is the first of its kind in the region. It identifies strategies to make the most of the existing infrastructure before adding new pavement. Transportation Demand Management (TDM), Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traditional traffic operations, and connected and autonomous vehicles are all TSMO strategies.
Solutions can be spot treatments, such as a new crosswalk or pedestrian signal, or systemwide, such as a multiagency Traffic Management Center or Data Warehouse to improve issue identification and response time. Sometimes these solutions can take the place of or delay the need for a large construction project.
What is in the AMATS TSMO Plan?
The plan focuses on all network users, recommending services, activities, and projects to improve safety and efficiency while strengthening agency collaboration.
The Plan Vision, Goals, and Objectives support the AMATS Metropolitan Transportation Plan. The Metropolitan Transportation Plan sets the framework for regional land use and transportation policy, to meet the needs of the Anchorage Bowl and Chugiak - Eagle River over the next 20 years.
Recommended strategies can be considered, nominated, and scored during the next update according to the current project selection criteria and performance measure targets.
