UDOT is installing new sidewalk, curb and gutter along both sides of 5400 South (SR-173) between Canal Street and 700 West in Taylorsville and Murray.
Project Overview
UDOT has started a project to install new sidewalk along both sides of 5400 South (SR-173) between Canal Street and 700 West in Taylorsville and Murray. This work also includes bus stop improvements, new storm drain, updated crosswalk markings and road messages, and new curb and gutter.
The goal of this sidewalk project is to improve storm water drainage and provide a safer pedestrian and transit user experience for residents in the area.

Project Timeline
Construction will take approximately four months to complete.
- February 9, 2026: Crews will start at Canal Street replacing a few segments of aging storm drain pipe. This work will happen ahead of curb and gutter installation and may require lane closures to complete safely.
- Late February to mid-April 2026: Our crews will install new sidewalk, curb, and gutter to provide safer pedestrian access between Taylorsville and Murray and upgrade existing bus stops throughout the project area to be more comfortable and accessible. - April to May 2026: Crews will complete the project by restoring the asphalt where they worked on 5400 South and restriping the road to include dedicated bike lanes, giving residents in the area safer and easier access via walking, biking, or public transit, to the planned 3,100 miles of the Utah Trail Network.

Work Hours: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Workdays: Monday - Friday
Weekend work will take place only as needed.
