Yukon's Alaska Highway Permafrost Repair (Grant Overview)
Yukon's Alaska Highway Permafrost Repair (Grant Overview)
Supported by DOT&PF and the Yukon Government, this project aims to rehabilitate sections of the Alaska Highway, a crucial World War II supply route and the sole year-round connection between Alaska and North America, that are deteriorating due to thawing permafrost. Failure to secure these funds could imperil safety, commerce, and rapid military and emergency responses. Emphasizing cross-border collaboration, the project represents the synergy between Alaska and the Yukon government and will focus on the "Shakwak" segment between Destruction Bay and the U.S./Canada border.
