Campbell Avenue: US 501 BUS STARS Study- City of Lynchburg
This STARS (Strategically Targeted Afordable Roadway Solutions) study will evaluate operational, access management, safety conditions for vehicular, bicycle, pedestrian and transit and develop improvement alternatives that will address these issues and the regional transportation needs.
The study corridor is Campbell Avenue (US 501 BUS) in the City of Lynchburg (Campbell County) from Holiday Street to US-460/US 29 and is approximately 2 miles in length. The speed limit of the corridor is consistently 35 mph throughout the corridor and the AADT is approximately 16000 vehicles per day (vpd). The study corridor is a 4-lane undivided minor arterial from Holiday Street to Woodrow Street. South of this segment within the vicinity of the US 29 eastbound ramp terminal, Campbell Avenue is a 4-lane divided minor arterial. Figure 1 shows the study area.
The surroundings of the corridor are densely residential, with few commercial and industrial properties. This corridor also includes William Marvin Bass Elementary School off Seabury Ave and Fairview Heights Recreation Center directly south of Ford St. The study will generate an Operational and Safety Analysis which will include analysis of existing and future congestion and safety issues along the corridor.
