Project Highlights

The proposed Charlotte Passaenger Rail Facility (STIP Project No. P-2918F) proposes to construct a new locomotive and passenger rail facility southwest of Uptown Charlotte (City Center) to replace the current facility adjacent to the Norfolk Southern Railway (NS) Charlotte Yard northeast of Uptown.  The new facility will serve the increasing number and length of intercity passenger trains serving the region and provide capacity to support the future development of high-speed passenger service on the federally designated Southeast High Speed Rail (SEHSR) corridor.

The new facility will include the following elements:

  • Railcar service and storage tracks
  • Enclosed facility for major maintenance operations
  • Fuel pad and onsite fuel tank
  • Additional space for storage of spare parts and equipment
  • Enclosed train wash facility
  • Train crew base for up to 20 crew members

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed.
