Project Overview
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to replace the bridge on Clemmonsville Road (S.R. 2747) over I-285/U.S. 52 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County. The existing 174-foot westbound bridge would be replaced in-place with 186-foot bridge. Traffic will be maintained using a temporary on-site detour during construction using staged constructed with one through lane in each direction and center turn lane maintained throughout construction phase.
The proposed bridge will include two 12-foot lanes in each direction with a 12-foot center turning lane, 5-foot bike lanes in both directions along with 5 1/2-foot sidewalks on each side of the proposed bridge. the bridge will be replaced in it's existing location. The construction phase is expected to last 36 months.
The posted speed limit on Clemmonsville Road over the bridge will be maintained at 35 mph.
Built in 1971, the existing bridge is aging and due for replacement. This does not imply that the 55-year-old bridge is unsafe. It means the bridge is reaching the end of its lifecycle and must be monitored, inspected and maintained on a more frequent basis.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
