Introduction
The Collaborative Northeast District Plan (“the Plan”) is a joint effort by the City of Austin and Travis County to address past inequities and promote inclusive development. Community input will be key to planning and will shape the future of the Northeast Planning District.
Background
In 2023, Austin City Council and Travis County Commissioner's Court and passed resolutions directing staff to develop an Interlocal Agreement for the Plan that was followed in March 2024 by an Interlocal Agreement to guide this collaborative planning effort.
Objectives
- Retaining existing residents and businesses,
- Creating and maintaining vibrant neighborhoods,
- Stimulating economic development,
- Generating and retaining stable jobs that pay a living wage,
- Improving connectivity,
- Providing high-quality public spaces, and
- Meeting the diverse needs of the community.
Where is the Northeast Planning District?
The Northeast Planning District (“the District”) is a 26.5 square-mile area. It is bounded by Highway 183, Highway 290, State Highway 130, and the Colorado River. The County will have an opportunity to suggest adjustments to the boundaries to create a cohesive area.
Parts of the Northeast Planning the District are in the City of Austin, parts are in the Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction, and parts are in unincorporated Travis County.
