Dixon Park Connector Trail with Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements
Dixon Park Connector Trail with Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements
About the Project
The proposed project is to build a trail to connect Dixon Street Park in the City of Fredericksburg with the cul-de-sac at the eastern end of Caroline Street. Come see proposed plans to build an approximately 10-foot-wide paved trail, a bridge over Hazel Run, retaining walls, and pedestrian/bicycle crossings under Route 3/Blue and Gray Parkway. Two potential alignments for the trail between Caroline Street and Dixon Park are being considered. As part of the proposed project, on-the-road bicycle facilities would be built on Caroline Street between the end of the shared use path at the cul-de-sac and the Fredericksburg train station. Between the cul-de-sac and Dixon Street, the proposed design has “sharrow” pavement markings, indicating that vehicle and bicycle traffic should share the road. The proposed project will also build dedicated bicycle lanes between Dixon Street and Frederick Street.
The City of Fredericksburg submitted an application to fund the project through Virginia’s SMART SCALE funding program. View the SMART SCALE application.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is administering the project’s design, right of way, and construction phases at the city’s request.
