STARS E 3rd Street/Persimmon Tree Fork Road Study
STARS E 3rd Street/Persimmon Tree Fork Road Study
This STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study aims to evaluate operational and safety conditions for vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian users at the intersection of US 460 BUS (E 3rd Street) and Persimmon Tree Fork Road / Milnwood Road in the Town of Farmville, Virginia. The study will assess existing traffic challenges and safety concerns, and it will develop potential improvement alternatives to enhance mobility, safety, and efficiency at this critical intersection.
The study intersection serves as a key access point within Farmville’s transportation network and is expected to experience increased traffic demand due to regional growth and upcoming developments. The Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) at the intersection is projected to increase with planned land use changes, including a proposed data center development along Persimmon Tree Fork Road. This development will introduce a significant volume of new traffic, including a large percentage of heavy truck traffic, further impacting the intersection’s traffic operations and safety conditions.
The existing intersection geometry features an acute-angle configuration, which may present operational challenges for turning movements, particularly for heavy vehicles and trucks. Additionally, the intersection is part of the VTrans Corridors of Statewide Significance (CoSS), highlighting its importance for regional connectivity and identified safety and travel demand management needs.
