McMullin Bridge Replacement (Smyth County)
Overview
The primary purpose of this project is to replace the Route 660 bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Smyth County. Replacement will include constructing a new bridge, demolishing the existing bridge and realigning portions of Route 660 and Browns Subdivision Road to facilitate the construction.
Other anticipated work for the project will include new pavement, drainage pipes, a stormwater management facility, guardrail, retaining walls, signs, pavement markings, and realignment of private property access.
The project is anticipated to begin the right-of-way phase to acquire any needed easements and/or utility relocations in September 2025. Construction is also expected to start in September 2025. The estimated completion date is December 2027.
The project cost is approximately $24.87 million, with most of the funding from the state government.
This area carries approximately 950 vehicles per day.
This project is moving forward as a design-build project. The design-build team will be responsible for finishing the design and constructing the project.
Public Outreach
A design public hearing will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 138 Oak Point Drive in Marion, Virginia. (Oak Point Elementary School)
The public comment period closes on January 25, 2025.
