U-4407: Ash Street (US 70 Bus) Improvements, Goldsboro
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to improve approximately 0.9 miles of East Ash Street (U.S. 70 Business) from Oak Forest Road to U.S. 70 in Goldsboro.
Project Overview
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to improve approximately 0.9 miles of East Ash Street (U.S. 70 Business) from Oak Forest Road to U.S. 70 in Goldsboro. The purpose of the project is to reduce congestion and provide improved safety for pedestrians and vehicular traffic along East Ash Street.
Project Highlights
The proposed improvements involve widening East Ash Street to four 12-foot travel lanes with concrete curb and gutter and a 23-foot raised median from just west of Oak Forest Road to Meadow Road, as well as constructing a new connection road to U.S. 70. Roundabouts will be constructed on East Ash Street at the intersections with Oak Forest Road and Commercial Drive/Meadow Road. A 5-foot sidewalk will be constructed on the north side of East Ash Street, and a 10-foot shared-use path will be constructed on the south side.
Project History
Plans to improve East Ash Street were developed in 2018, which included widening East Ash Street to 4-lanes and a raised median from Berkeley Boulevard to U.S. 70. A public meeting was held on April 23, 2019. Since then, the length of the project has been shortened.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
