Route 83 roundabout at Route 637 (Rose Ridge) in Dickenson County
Benefits
A project to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Route 83 and Route 637 (D.C. Caney Ridge and Rose Ridge) in Dickenson County is currently being designed. The project includes replacing the current park and ride lot with a new park and ride lot at the northeast area of the intersection.
The project is financed using state funds through VDOT's SMART SCALE Program, which includes an application and scoring process to evaluate projects statewide based on key factors such as improving safety and contributing to economic development.
Route 83 carries approximately 5,800 vehicles per day in this area.
Following the public meeting, the project design will be finalized. The project is anticipated to move to the right of way phase for any needed easements and/or utility relocations in summer 2024. Construction is anticipated to begin late 2025/early 2026.
During construction, motorists can expect flaggers directing traffic in the work zone.
