Housing Diversity
Housing Diversity
Haddonfield is predominantly a residential community, and almost all the residential neighborhoods in the Borough are comprised primarily of single-family homes. While this type of housing is desirable, the dependence on a single type does not fully meet the needs of current and future residents (or current residents in the future!).
There is a growing emphasis on providing housing types for the “missing middle”, or the range of housing types that exist between single-family detached homes and apartment buildings.
Please visit the Haddonfield 2024 Master Plan homepage for more information on this focus area and the larger Master Plan process.
Housing Diversity
There is a lack of diversity in the Borough’s housing stock. Most homes are large (82% of housing units have three or more bedrooms), single-family detached (85% of total), old (87.5% of households are over 50 years old), owner-occupied (85.2% of total), and expensive (88% over $300,000; 54.% over $500,000).
Demand for Housing
The “Haddonfield shuffle” of residents moving to a new home in a different part of the Borough emphasizes how much residents value living in the community and want to stay here through multiple phases of their lives. Increasing the types of residential housing opportunities will make it easier for current and future residents to find housing that is appropriate for their needs.
Below are some general resources on missing middle housing.
