Ferry Tolling Implementation

Recommended Ferry Tolling Rates Available

Comment opportunity available October 9 through October 23.

Recommended Toll Rates for January 1, 2027

Ferry Division staff evaluated the vessel replacement schedule, estimated replacement costs, and other funding sources that could help fund new vessels. The analysis found a tradeoff in setting initial toll rates: higher rates could reduce reliance on other funding sources and lessen the need for future rate increases, but they could also suppress ridership and make toll revenues less predictable.

  • Rates on the existing tolled routes would not change January 1, 2027
  • Rates are estimated to generate an average of $4.4 million per year, which will support vessel replacement but is less than the revenue required to fund 80% of one vessel every four years.

The Division will monitor impacts from tolling and ridership trends and report back to the Board of Transportation next fall with any recommendations for future toll rate increases to meet revenue goals.
