Project Overview
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes replacing two bridges along Forestville Road (S.R. 2049) over Harris Creek and Hodges Mill Creek in Wake County. Forestville Road is a two-lane road.
The bridge over Harris Creek was built in 1977. It is 75.5 feet long by 30.5 feet wide. It is being replaced by a new bridge that will be 100 feet long by 47.5 feet wide. The replacement of this bridge is needed to address ongoing bridge maintenance issues
The bridge over Hodges Mill Creek was built in 1978. The existing bridge is 75.5 feet long and 30.6 feet wide. It is being replaced by a new bridge that will be 130 feet long and 47.5 feet wide. This bridge, while safe to travel is considered structurally deficient and is approaching the end of its functional life. A bridge is considered structurally deficient if it is in relatively poor condition or has insufficient load carrying capacity according to federal standards.
- Both bridges will include one twelve-foot lane in each direction. They will include a paved shoulder on the west side of the roadway and curb and gutter with a side-use path on the east side.
- Both bridges will be replaced at their existing location.
- There will be an 5.5 mile offsite detour during construction
- The construction of the two bridges is anticipated to occur at the same time.
- The anticipated timeframe for construction is 11 months.
- The detour route will utilize Mitchell Mill Road, U.S. 401, Interstate 540 (Exit 20) and Buffaloe Road as shown on the map below.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
