Trail Network and Highland Avenue Crossings Feasibility Study
Trail Network and Highland Avenue Crossings Feasibility Study
The City of Salem is currently working on the Trail Network and Highland Avenue Crossings Feasibility Study, which aims to evaluate the existing trails, and possible trail connections in the Highland Ave area. The study will help provide information that can be used in prioritizing and implementing future trail connections and improvements in the area. As a part of this study, we are gathering information from the public on the trails that are currently in the Highland Ave area, and where future trail connections should be considered. Our aim is to utilize this information to better inform the study, and identify where future trail safety and infrastructure investments should be made.
This area is a priority for the City, and has been highlighted in the City's 2023-2030 Open Space and Recreation Plan as an area where trail and open space improvement is possible. The Highland Ave Corridor Study also highlights the community's desires for improving walkability, bikebaility and connectivity. This trail feasibility study will open up future opportunities for the City to move forward with expanding and improving the trail network around Highland Ave.

Trail Network and Highland Ave Crossings Survey
In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the existing trails in the Highland Ave area, and where new connections might be needed, we are looking for the public and community members to provide input. Specifically, we would like to know which trails and trailheads are currently used, and where there are possible connections between those trail networks and Highland Ave.
Please indicate the trails, trailheads, and possible trail connections around Highland Ave on the map below. These can be official and unofficial trails. Add a comment to provide further information on the trail(s) you indicate. The pink photo points indicate areas that have been walked by the project team.
