Introduction to the Site: Thank you for your interest in the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River Subarea Plan.

The Department of Local Services is working on this plan. It focuses on rural, unincorporated King County—areas outside city and town limits.

The plan will set a vision for the next 20 years. It will include policies and actions to help make that vision a reality. Our goal is to improve quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and spends time in this area.

What will the plan cover?

  • Land use and zoning
  • Housing and human services
  • Environment
  • Parks, open space, and cultural resources
  • Transportation
  • Services and utilities
  • Economic development

Community input is important. What we hear from people in the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River area will shape the Executive’s recommended plan. The County Council will review the plan and related actions in 2027.

How does this fit with other plans?

This subarea plan is part of the King County Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan sets overall goals for the county. Subarea plans look more closely at specific communities. This helps the County make decisions that reflect local needs while supporting countywide goals.

For more information, please visit the King County Comprehensive Plan website.

Why We Plan

  • Sets a vision for the future of the community.

  • Helps guide how King County makes decisions about land use and development.

  • Helps the County meet the needs of the people it serves.

  • Brings King County government and communities together to plan growth in an equitable and responsible way.
