Background

The purpose of this study is to analyze the operational and safety issues identified at the intersection of Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway) and Route 171 (Victory Boulevard), with a focus on safety improvements and congestion mitigation. The intersection has a high number of crashes related to congestion. The objective of this study is to identify cost-effective preferred improvement alternatives that address the documented needs.

This Phase 2 survey is intended to obtain public input on the issues at the study intersection and the alternatives under consideration to address these issues. The study team ranked reducing traffic congestion and corridor safety/intersection safety as the two most important issues in the study area. Rear-end crashes relating to congestion were identified as the greatest safety issue at the study intersection.
