Virginia 2026 Roadway Safety Survey Questionnaire

Virginia 2026 Roadway Safety Survey Questionnaire

Virginia is updating its Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) – Arrive Alive. This plan sets the statewide direction for making Virginia’s roads safer for everyone—drivers and passengers, pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and others.

The Steering Committee, which consists of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Virginia State Police (VSP), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Department of Health (VDH), and other state and local agencies and safety partners overseeing this effort, wants to hear from you. Please share your experiences and concerns about roadway safety. Your feedback will help shape the next SHSP and guide safety efforts in the coming years.

Taking this survey is completely optional. The survey contains 19 questions and will take approximately five minutes to complete. You do not need to answer every question before clicking "Submit Survey" at the end of the survey. Your responses are anonymous and confidential, and we will only report results as combined totals across the state.

Section 1

Section 1: Top Safety Concerns for Each Emphasis Area

The current SHSP focuses on 13 emphasis areas (EA), which are predominant factors that contribute to or result in fatalities or serious injuries. The EAs are organized by the five (5) elements from the Safe System Approach (Safe Road Users, Safe Vehicles, Safe Speeds, Safe Roads, and Post-Crash Care).

This section aims to understand which safety issues within each emphasis area are most concerning to the public. Each question focuses on one emphasis area. Questions are listed in order of the five elements from the Safe System Approach.
