Project Overview

The N.C. Department of Transportation is proposing to replace the bridge on Green Level Church Road (S.R. 1630) over Kit Creek in Cary. Built in 1975, the existing bridge has been determined to be structurally deficient according to Federal Highway Administration standards. Structurally deficient bridges are safe; however, they are in poor condition due to deterioration or have insufficient load-carrying capacity due to the original design.

Two new bridges will be constructed as part of this project. The first bridge will be constructed on the east side of the existing bridge, while the second bridge will be constructed in the same location as the existing bridge. The existing roadway Green Level Church Road, will be upgraded to improve the approaches to the two bridges. Traffic will be maintained on Green Level Church Road during construction.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
