Johnson River and Gerstle River Bridges Bundled Project
The Johnson and Gerstle bridges are pivotal components of the Alaska Highway established in 1942, near their 80-year service mark and are crucial for tourism, freight, and various industries. Facing structural challenges, both bridges, built in 1944, are in "Poor Condition" with the Johnson River Bridge incurring over $3.6 million in repairs. The replacement vision encompasses an eight-span concrete decked bulb-tee girder bridge, spanning approximately 1,160 feet and 43 feet wide, accompanied by resurfacing, grading, and various safety enhancements.

MPDG
The Multimodal Projects Discretionary Program (MPDG) supports three major discretionary grant programs that involve surface transportation projects designed to strengthen supply chains, spur economic development, and improve safety and daily life.
The Mega Program supports large, complex projects that are difficult to fund by other means and are likely to generate national or regional economic, mobility, or safety benefits.
The Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects program (INFRA) funds multimodal freight and highway projects of national or regional significance to improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the movement of freight and people in and across rural and urban areas.
Bridge Investment Program
The Bridge Investment Program (BIP) funds planning, small, and large bridge projects. BIP focuses on existing bridges to reduce the overall number of bridges in poor condition, or in fair condition at risk of falling into poor condition.
Johnson and Gerstle Bundled Bridges project falls under the Large Bridge Program. Projects with total eligible project costs of greater than $100 million are eligible under the Large Bridge Program.
