Climate Equity Working Group - 2025 SCAP Update
Climate Equity Working Group - 2025 SCAP Update
Overview:
Are you interested in helping your community adapt to climate change impacts? Would you like to shape what local government is doing to help us to reduce pollution, prepare for climate impacts, and to partner with Black, Indigenous, People of Color, immigrant, and refugee communities in this work?
We are seeking 20 frontline community members to join the Climate Equity Working Group and co-create the King County 2025 Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP) over the next six months. The SCAP is a five-year blueprint for County climate action, integrating climate change into all areas of County operations and work with King County cities, partners, communities, and residents. Building on the Sustainable & Resilient Frontline Communities (SRFC) section of the 2020 SCAP, the Climate Equity Working Group (CEWG) will bring their unique experiences and insights to co-create equitable climate solutions for King County. The updates to the 2020 SCAP Report, including the 2023 Biennial Update, were rooted in the understanding that climate change is an urgent local and global challenge, and that climate change is a threat multiplier that creates complex challenges, particularly for communities affected by historic and current inequities.
Time Commitment:
To participate in the Climate Equity Working Group, we ask for a commitment to:
- Actively participate in three, all-day (10am - 4pm), in-person workshops on July 10, August 14, and October 30, 2024 at the King County Chinook Building (near Pioneer Square light rail station in Seattle). Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
- Independently review draft materials between workshop sessions (6 hours in total).
- Attend optional online meetings in December and in March to provide updates on the 2025 SCAP process.
Process:
If you are interested in joining the Climate Equity Working Group, please complete this interest form by June 17th. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a 20-30 minute virtual interview. If selected to participate in the CEWG, you will be asked to complete a Memorandum of Agreement with King County.
Compensation:
Climate Equity Working Group participants will be compensated for their time with a $1,200 stipend. Please note that King County requires a W-9 form and this income is taxable.
