Lafayette Blvd. Intersection Improvements
Lafayette Blvd. Intersection Improvements
Project Overview
The proposed project plans to reconstruct the intersections of Lafayette Boulevard (Route 1 Business) and Kenmore Avenue, Lafayette Boulevard and Charles Street, and Lafayette Boulevard and Prince Edward Street in the City of Fredericksburg.
The proposed project would remove the traffic signal from the intersection of Lafayette Boulevard and Kenmore Avenue. Lafayette Boulevard would become a free-flow movement while Kenmore Avenue would become a stop-controlled intersection. Prince Edward Street would become a one-way street. The traffic signal at Lafayette Boulevard and Charles Street would be replaced. Spot improvements would include curb and gutter, sidewalk, a shared use path, storm sewer, stormwater management, lighting, pavement markings, and signs. During construction, portions of Prince Edward Street, Kenmore Avenue, and Lafayette Boulevard would need to be closed to through traffic and detour routes would be in place.
The project's purpose is to enhance safety and optimize traffic operations at the intersections and accommodate pedestrians through the installation of marked crosswalks and advance warning signs.
