Background

The purpose of this study is to identify projects to improve safety and bicycle and pedestrian access on Route 41 (Franklin Turnpike) from north of Hunting Hills Road to Orphanage Road in Pittsylvania County. The project recommendations that come from this study will be developed into funding applications for Virginia's SMART SCALE program and other transportation funding programs.

The study effort revealed safety issues, including speeding and high rates of fatal crashes. Angle collisions make up more than 62% of crashes in the corridor.

The study team developed and tested several improvement concepts that have potential to address the issues identified. The input from this survey will be considered in the selection of the preferred concept for each location.
