Williamsport Pile Bay Road Development (Grant Overview)
Williamsport Pile Bay Road Development (Grant Overview)
Williamsport Pile Bay Road Project is in the preconstruction stage to upgrade a 14-mile gravel road into an all-season, two-lane roadway, and establish a port and barge landing in the Lake Iliamna region. This enhancement, rooted in a road operational since the 1930s, promises improved connectivity, facilitating the influx of essential goods and services, thereby potentially attracting businesses and creating jobs, especially in transportation. Emphasizing safety and addressing transport challenges for local communities, it stands to benefit sectors including commercial fishing and Native villages, particularly within the "Persistent Poverty Census Tract". The initiative aligns with regional goals of boosting internet connectivity, tourism, and emergency responses.
RURAL: The planning phase is estimated to be $5,630,511, with DOT&PF seeking $4,504,409 (80%) in federal funds. The state commits to $1,126,102 (20%) in non-federal share.
