What is the Monterey County Regional Vision Zero Safety Action Plan? 

The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) partnered with local agencies and stakeholders across the region to develop this Monterey County Regional Vision Zero Safety Action Plan, aimed at making it safer to travel on city streets and county roads. While the plan’s recommendations are centered on locally owned and maintained roadways within the county, safety concerns are region wide and must be addressed through partnership, collaboration, and a shared understanding of our safety goals. Importantly, TAMC does not own, maintain, or operate roadways; instead, this plan provides a countywide framework—grounded in data and best practices—to guide coordinated action among member agencies.

What This Plan Covers 

Locations 

The Monterey County Regional Vision Zero Action Plan covers all roads within Monterey County, including city streets, county roads, and state highways. We have created individual safety plans for the cities of Carmel, Pacific Grove, Del Rey Oaks, Sand City, Marina, Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, King City, as well as the rural parts of Monterey County. The cities of Salinas, Monterey, and Seaside already have, or are in the process of developing, their own safety plans. 

Strategies 

The plan includes much more than engineering projects. Using the Safe System Approach, we have identified new or improved local policies and programs to better prioritize safety, as well as region-wide strategies like education and enforcement to encourage safe behaviors.
