Project Overview

The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to upgrade Morrattock Road from Long Ridge Road to N.C. 45/N.C. 32 by widening the existing road from two 10-foot lanes with 1-foot paved shoulders to two 12-foot lanes with 5’-0” paved shoulders.

Two new alignment alternatives are being considered to realign the road at the eastern end of Morrattock Road:

  • Alternative 1 would realign Morrattock Road to improve the sight distance at the intersection of Morrattock Road and N.C. 45 / N.C. 32.
  • Alternative 2 would realign Morrattock Road to align with the intersection of N.C. 32 and N.C. 45 north of existing.

Resources for Property Owners

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road

project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right

of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
